Fraud: The Ugly Side of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool for good that can also be used to spread false and damaging information and by scammers to defraud consumers.

Artificial intelligence has great potential to improve humanity as it rapidly expands across society — in medicine, education, research and global connectivity.

But AI also has an ugly downside when used to spread misinformation and disinformation and to commit fraud. Because AI is relatively inexpensive to use and can create highly convincing messaging, it has become the scammer’s dream come true. In the future, we may often have great difficulty separating the fake from reality.

This session will offer a brief look at the applications of artificial intelligence and the potential for fraud.
