The Rise of Women Artists in America

The final session of our four-part virtual series on American women artists will explore the life and works of Georgia O’Keeffe.

Historically, in an art world dominated by men, women struggled to be taken seriously as artists while juggling the demands of their domestic lives. By the mid-1800s, some women were willing to buck the boundaries of propriety to find recognition.

This session, Georgia O’Keeffe – Invention and Reinvention, will introduce you to the life and works of a woman who lived life on her own terms and was a master at reinventing herself. A close look at Georgia O’Keeffe’s work reveals that the radical shifts she made personally are reflected in her paintings.

Learn more about the joys and challenges of becoming a working artist and the careers of those women who are lesser known!

How to Join

A separate registration is required for each class in the series. Sign in to your AARP.org account or create an account to register for events. You will receive an email with the Zoom link before class.
