The Rise of Women Artists in America

Part 3 of our four-part virtual series on women artists will explore the art of seven women working during the Gilded Age.

REGISTER HERE

This four-webinar series will consider the sweep of American women’s history through the lives and work of women artists. Historically, in an art world dominated by men, women struggled to be taken seriously as artists while juggling the demands of their domestic lives. By the mid-1800s, some women were willing to buck the boundaries of propriety to find recognition.

This session, Art of the Gilded Age: Beauty and Modernity Collide, will introduce you to the works of seven women creating art in a variety of media during the Gilded Age, including Lila Cabbot Perry, Frances Benjamin Johnston and Evelyn Beatrice Longman.

Learn more about the joys and challenges of becoming a working artist and the careers of those women who are lesser known! Additional sessions:
