Financial exploitation comes in many forms, and older adults are often victimized because scammers or even devious relatives think they are a soft target. Fraud can be perpetrated by a scammer who tricks a vulnerable person into handing over money, for example, or by a trusted friend or relative who steals funds or other property or forges a signature, say.
Experts say that in most cases, this abuse can be prevented before it starts. While there’s no limit to how creative those who wish to steal can be, we’ll discuss steps you can take to help protect yourself or a vulnerable loved one from financial exploitation.
