J. Robert Oppenheimer became one of America's best-known scientists - and a highly controversial figure - for leading the effort to create the atomic bomb at Los Alamos and becoming caught up in the politics of nuclear weapons policy in the 1940s and 50s.
This virtual presentation on Oppenheimer, given by retired economist Dan Sherman, will explore the career and personality of a fascinating but flawed individual, changes in his reputation over time and the recent film “Oppenheimer.” The program is offered by AARP Virginia and the Lifelong Learning Institute at Virginia Tech.
