Join AARP Virginia and the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site in Richmond as we celebrate Black History Month with a presentation about Maggie L. Walker’s life and a virtual tour of her historic home.
Maggie Lena Walker was born in Richmond in 1864 and devoted her life to civil rights advancement, economic empowerment and educational opportunities for Jim Crow-era African Americans and women. Learn about her achievements as a bank president, newspaper editor and leader in a fraternal organization dedicated to helping the sick and aged. Today, Walker’s home is preserved as a tribute to her vision, courage and determination.
