Healthy Living: Benefits of Laughter Yoga

Research has shown that laughter can benefit both our physical and mental health and our well-being.

As part of our Healthy Living series, AARP Rhode Island is pleased to offer a virtual class in laughter yoga. Come learn how to make laughter a daily practice!

Laughter yoga combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing techniques to bring oxygen to our body and brain. Laughter Yoga leader and founder of the Providence Laughter Club Larry O’Brien will take us through this yoga workout involving movement and breathing along with intentional laughing over a prolonged period.

Laughter Yoga International notes on its website that health benefits of laughing include helping to reduce stress, make the immune system stronger and keep the mind positive during challenging times. According to PositivePsychology.com, intentional laughter, while it may seem forced, appears to have benefits similar to those of spontaneous laughter. Please consult your physician before beginning any new exercise regimen.

How to Join

Please note that you must be signed in to your AARP.org account or create an account to register for events. AARP membership is not required. You will be emailed a link to join the class via Zoom prior to the event.
