Join AARP Virginia and the Lifelong Learning Institute at Virginia Tech for a virtual tour of the Assateague Island National Seashore and neighboring Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

Naturalist and garden educator Keith Tomlinson is our guide on this exploration of these barrier islands off the coast of Maryland and Virginia, landscapes bound by the Coastal Plain and the restless Atlantic Ocean that have their own ecology and geomorphology. Marine and continental biomes converge to create the area’s beautiful natural space - and opportunities for remote beach hiking, birding, biking and camping. Appealing to visitors as well: the islands’ free-ranging herds of horses.
