In collaboration with The Generations Project, AARP Oregon presents a monthly virtual social gathering to connect people within the LGBTQ+ community and allies, using writing and discussion prompts. Topics vary from the light and humorous to the personal, allowing participants to find a subject they find easy to write or talk about.

In honor of LGBTQ+ Pride Month, our guest storyteller will be Michelle Lopez, a first-generation immigrant from Trinidad and a bisexual woman living with HIV. She will share her story of how the LGBTQ+ community offered her support when she needed it most, and how she paid that forward by becoming an advocate for HIV health care, including enrolling her daughter in the first trial that made HIV drugs available for children.

Between each writing period, the group shares and engages in conversation, guided by facilitators from The Generation Project, which cultivates intergenerational community and preserves LGBTQ+ history through oral story sharing. The organization creates spaces and facilitates programs that foster connection across ages, classes, and sexual and gender identities. No writing experience or time commitment is necessary; each session stands alone.

How to Join

You will need to register separately for each session you are interested in attending. Please note that you must be signed in to your AARP.org account or create an account to register for events. AARP membership is not required. Please do not opt out of event-related email, as you will be emailed a link to join the class via Zoom prior to the event.
