The intriguing histories behind the creation of many major American art museums are filled with eccentric and fascinating characters boasting great fortunes and art collections. In this exploration presented by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University, we will investigate the characters and stories of such museums as the Isabella Stewart Gardner, the Phillips Collection, the Morgan, the Frick, the National Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Cloisters.

Presenter Tom Manteuffel has taught a variety of classes at OLLI, including on Renaissance Art and French Impressionism. He is a retired cybersecurity consultant with a passion for museums.
