“The Joy Luck Club” tells the stories of four Chinese women and their Chinese-American daughters and is based on the 1989 novel by Amy Tan.

Through a series of flashbacks, “The Joy Luck Club” explores the histories and relationships of four Chinese women, longtime friends, who came to live in San Francisco after World War II and whose Joy Luck Club meets regularly to play mahjong. All four have Chinese-American daughters, and the stories revolve around them as well. This film is Rated R for strong depiction of thematic material.
