Healthy Living: Benefits of Laughter Yoga

Research has shown that laughter can benefit both our physical and mental health and our well-being.

As part of our Healthy Living series, AARP Rhode Island is pleased to offer a virtual class in Laughter Yoga. Laughter Yoga combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing techniques which brings more oxygen to our body and brain making us feel more energetic and healthy. Laughing can reduce stress, make your immune system stronger and keep your mind positive during challenging times (Source: Laughter Yoga International).

Laughter Yoga leader of the Providence Laughter Club, Larry O’Brien, will take us through this yoga workout involving movement and breathing along with intentional laughing over a prolonged period. According to PositivePsychology.com, intentional laughing, while it may seem forced, appears to have physiological and psychological benefits similar to those of spontaneous laughter. Come learn how to make laughter a daily practice! Please consult your physician before beginning any new exercise regimen.

How to Join

Please note that you must be signed in to your AARP.org account or create an account to register for events. AARP membership is not required. Please do not opt out of event-related email, as you will be emailed a link to join the class via Zoom prior to the event.
