Osteoarthritis affects millions of seniors worldwide, causing joint stiffness, pain and limited mobility. Fortunately, studies have shown that qigong (CHEE gong), an ancient Chinese practice that involves gentle movements, deep breathing and meditation, can be an effective way to manage and reduce the symptoms of osteoarthritis. According to recent studies, qigong can improve joint flexibility, reduce pain and boost overall well-being.
A study published in the journal Current Rheumatology Reports in 2013 concluded that qigong is an effective mind-body therapy for the management of arthritis-related symptoms. Another study published in the Journal of Aging Research in 2014 found that qigong practice can improve balance and reduce the risk of falls in older adults with arthritis. Qigong can also help reduce stress, improve balance and enhance cardiovascular health. Our instructor, Nate Guadagni, has 18 years of experience and will guide you safely through qigong’s gentle movements. Please consult your physician before beginning any new exercise regimen.
