In collaboration with The Generations Project, AARP Oregon presents a monthly virtual intergenerational social gathering designed to connect people within the LGBTQ+ community and allies, using fun writing and discussion prompts. Topics will vary from the light and humorous to the more personal, allowing participants to find a subject they relate to and find easy to write or talk about. Between each short writing period, the group shares and engages in organic conversation, guided by facilitators from The Generation Project, which cultivates intergenerational community and preserves LGBTQ+ history through oral story sharing. The organization creates spaces and facilitates programs that foster connection and empathy across all ages, classes, and sexual and gender identities. A special guest will be announced soon!
No writing experience or time commitment is necessary; each session stands alone. So come to as many as you'd like!
Special Guest
In honor of National Volunteer Month, our April guest storyteller will be Reginald Thomas Brown. Reginald (they/them) became the President of their Kansas City chapter of the Gay Liberation Front in 1971, and since then have been a tireless activist and advocate for affordable healthcare and housing, especially for those impacted by HIV. They have volunteered, protested, marched and mentored for decades, and will kick off our session where we will discuss the importance and impact of staying involved!
How to Join
You will need to register separately for each session you are interested in attending. Please note that you must be signed in to your AARP.org account or create an account to register for events. AARP membership is not required. Please do not opt out of event-related email, as you will be emailed a link to join the class prior to the event.
