The Black History of a Virginia Community
A presentation by the Manassas Museum will explore the Black history of the region through the stories of people who lived there.
About the Event
Black history is American history -- and Manassas History. Gain a more nuanced picture of American history through this exploration of Black life in Manassas: the stories of an enslaved woman who met and shook hands with a president, another woman born enslaved and with no formal education who founded a school for African American students that was in continuous operation for over 40 years, and a local family that helped establish the community’s first black church and its first primary school for African American children. Join AARP Virginia’s Tuesday Explorers as we learn about these important people and places from guest speaker Rachel Goldberg, the programs and events coordinator at the Manassas Museum.
