African Americans Who Changed America

Discover the stories of African American leaders and innovators who have had a real impact on American society.

African Americans have long contributed to American political and social life, culture, science and technology. Many of their contributions have not been recognized. Learn more about some of the iconic leaders who have made our country a better place, including civil rights activist Rosa Parks, who changed the course of American history when she refused to give up her bus seat in 1955, and Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first Black candidate for a major party’s presidential nomination. There will be time at the end of the session to ask questions.
