Where the wild things are--the Galapagos Islands!

A small cluster of islands about 600 miles of the coast of Ecuador holds some of the world’s most exotic, vulnerable, but cherished animals! The Galapagos was the first site to be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Natural Site and 97% of the islands' area is a National Park. The islands were created by movements of tectonic plates and volcanos, some still active today. Meet the blue-footed boobies, marine monster iguanas, and Lonesome George, the poster child tortoise for endangered species.

About our Guest Speaker: Bonnie Becker

Enthralled at an early age by history and geography books, Bonnie Becker has been fortunate in her adult life to travel to many of the places that stirred her childhood imagination. She enjoys studying up on the destinations before a trip and following news from such places upon return. Beginning as a high school social studies teacher, she was with the Fairfax County Public Schools Office of Equity and Compliance for many years, serving as the Title IX coordinator. She also taught human relations for teachers for the University of Virginia during that time. Now retired, she is currently teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages to adults through the Washington English Center.
