On January 28th, 2021, at 6:00 PM, AARP Florida will convene a conversation with multi-ethnic, multigenerational community and faith leaders to discuss their experiences in 2020.   These individuals, from various walks of life, occupations, and locations, are determined to create a safe space for sharing.

This open and honest conversation will be facilitated by Dr. Barbara J. Volger, a licensed Social Worker, Author, Researcher and international professor and lecturer.  Each participant in this discussion will bring their own level of expertise, and will join Dr. Volger in a discussion around those “hard conversations” that we may have engaged in as a result of the multitude of impactful event and occurrences of 2020.

The webinar will also conduct a “check-in” of sorts for each of us, and arm us with information, tools, tips and resources to enable us to move forward as human beings, each different, but living together.  We have dealt with a worldwide pandemic, food insecurity, unemployment, and an election cycle like no other.  It is undeniable, racism is a public health crisis, and with all the 2020 delivered, there is a need to engage in this conversation.

Subjects that will be addressed will be, but not limited to the following:

  • Racism – how can we move forward now?
  • Ageism – why is this significant?
  • Activism – what does that look like?
  • Mental Health/wellbeing in 2021 and beyond – what does that feel like?
  • Sense of community and purpose – what does that look like?
  • Self-care – what does that feel like?
